Park Streets Dads v SFDWP @ Park Street Rec (15/05/2018)
A low scoring affair saw the Saddos defend a very much sub-par total against a Park Street XI that usually know how to pace a run chase well.
Openers Harsha and Shedders didn't trouble the scorers a great deal and Curtis quickly followed, after missing a loopy half tracker, which left Jan and Glenno to resurrect an innings floundering on a low, slow track.
Jan was imperious, batting as if sporting a smoking jacket and cravat, and reached retirement in quick fashion. Glenno biffed away assisted by Wilsers (the Test match version) rotating the strike with singles.
Saddos limped to a final total of 114 with a late flurry from a strong tail of Winfield, Rich and Robbo. Somewhere in there, Chennells managed to get bowled on his second ball and Busted was run out from a direct hit - the other Simon's apologies echoing in the distance as he made his walk back to the hutch.
Hopes weren't high taking the field. The target looked to be 30 runs short on a flat pitch.
The tone for our stint in the field was set by a superb opening spell by Winners and Glenno - 4 overs for 6 runs and wicket. Tim finishing with an excellent 1-1 of his 2 overs.
Rupert was tight with his away-swingers while Harsha gave the oppo a sniff with a few boundaries, a couple of which may have had some assistance from fielders ushering the ball to the rope.
Busted soon came on and bagged a couple: one generously given out by the umpire because the batsman didn't appeal for an above the waist full-toss and the other a stumping from a smart piece of glove work by Rich. At the same end - this is Park Street - Curtis was tight and unlucky not have taken a wicket with a couple of difficult half chances going down.
Things were looking up - the oppo hadn't got away from us and Saddos were still very much in the game.
Wilson and Roberts kept things tight at a time when Park Street, now behind the run rate, were trying to get things moving along. Both taking vital wickets but more importantly not giving away boundaries. Dippers and Chennells were thrown the ball to defend around 40 off their allotted 4 overs. And defend it they did.
An outstanding team bowling performance.
Highlights
- All the Saddos dismissals involved the stumps being disturbed - 8 bowled and 1 direct-hit run out.
- Rich charging a high looping slow ball, missing it, then running back after it to have another swipe. He probably could have had a third shot at it if he wasn't so slow.
- Jan patrolling the boundary in his smoking jacket and cravat, daintily flapping at the ball to help it over the boundary.
- Excellent glove work by Rich, not just for the stumping but also a smart catch off Dippers' bowling.
- £21 for a round of 9 pints to wash down the sausages and chips. Can't argue with value like that.
- Apparently, the Park Street Dads motto is "Six or Gay". There were no sixes hit in this match.
- The Tuesday Team marches on.
