20 Over Match vs Park Street

14th May 2019 at Park Street

Sad Fat Dads With Pads won by 9 wickets

On a lovely evening, in bright spring sunshine, an entire team of Saddos arrived on time!
Surely some sort of record. We even had a couple of members of the SFDWP Crocked IX in Jonno and Churchy there to tend to scoring duties and moral support. After much faffing around with a change room lock that refused to unlock - Saddos risked public decency violations and got changed outside, in view of the colourful patrons of the local Social Club.

Invited to bowl first, Captain Jones tossed the ball to Glenno who immediately found a sweet length, castling one of the openers with an in-ducker. The other opener, a Frogmore first IX player, set about punishing anything loose from the other early bowlers in WIlson, Harsha and Arnd (bowling off a long run for the first time), all of whom, to be fair, bowled one very good over and one not-so-good over.
Once the opener retired, Saddos set about strangling the batting with the run rate never getting above 6. WG bagged the next wicket in spell full of the cunning and guile that we've come to expect from him. Bondy, and Curtis dibbled and dobbled away without giving the batsmen anything too loose - in Curtis' case the tactic of bowling wides definitely made it difficult for the batsmen to lay bat on ball.
Skipper Jones was next up and was hoicked about a bit while he adjusted his bowling radar. No doubt he'd have something to say about Bondy's hot-potato fielding effort on the boundary. Williams audibly creaked to the crease but bowled superbly snaring a couple of wickets with Busted taking a sharp chance - third time lucky for Busted, having dropped a couple already.
A special mention to Paggers, tidy behind the stumps, and Wilson chasing everything from point to 3rd man in the field.

Set 123 to win, Glenno, under strict orders from senior management to be ready to leave at 7.45, wasted no time in getting stuck into the bowling. Smiting anything and everything, he retired on 31 off what must have been only 3 overs. This allowed Harsha, Busted and Wilson to take turns at their Boycott/Tavare impressions and gently accumulate to take Saddos within striking distance. Captain Jones decided to make things interesting by asking Busted (24) and Wilson (7) to retire, to allow a couple of Wolves in sheep's clothing to come to the crease.

With some artful defending and telepathic calling for runs , i.e no calls were made so no runs were taken, Paggers and Curtis took the game into the 19th over, when the winning runs were biffed to the boundary.

All in all a terrific win with everyone showing glimpses of form that bodes well for the season ahead. Special thanks to Glenno for making himself available at the last minute and putting in a man of the match performance and to Jonno and Churchy for the support.
Also to Churchy for providing the comedy moment of the evening, when hobbling to the car park after the post-game pint he discovered that his crutches had been adjusted to suit someone considerably shorter. It may have setback his rehab.
