Disclaimer:

• 2nd June 2016 was colder than Christmas Day 2015 (Curtis^TM). Priorities were therefore more concerned with keeping warm than taking notes about a game of cricket. Anyone who reads match reports for their statistical accuracy/correct use of cricketing terminology should stop reading now.

In a nutshell:

• Corporal Jones was promoted to Captain for the evening. Promptly loses the toss. Saddos to bat.


• Simmonds and Wilson open strongly and build the platform, ably assisted by Curtis and O'Grady fielding for the opposition 'on the one' so plenty of singles. Simmonds retires on 25, closely followed by Wilson out caught & bowled.


• New pairing of Karunanayake and O'Hare keep the run rate going and build another decent partnership before Harsha wafts at one and is caught behind.


• Roberts comes in to play the role of foil to O'Hare, matching Paul's 4's and 6's with ones and occasional twos. Paul retires on an excellent 38.


• Curtis replaces Paul. A quick-fire 15 runs - including a couple of boundaries and a run-4 - means he leaves the field of play with his batting reputation enhanced.


• A cameo appearance from the Captain is up next. A second run-4 of the innings leaves both Jones and Roberts breathing through their arses. Jones goes for a useful 12. Roberts starts getting the ball off the square.


• O'Grady saunters to the middle. O'Grady saunters back.


• Dorey improves his batting averages with a not-out 1. WG's batting services not required.


• Final word to Roberts, finishing in style with 2 sixes and a four, retiring on 30. 156 set to win.

My notes get a bit scrappy now. Hypothermia setting in.

• Their response gets underway with O'Hare and Roberts spearheading our attack. The spearhead shows no sign of rust and a wicket each sees off their openers.


• O'Grady and Simmonds are first change. Glenno ties down one end, Neal bowls from the other. No wickets but the figures are tidy and there is a sense of inevitability about victory.


• Wilson and Dorey next up and a couple of quick wickets - one C Dorey, B Wilson, the other C Wilson B Dorey. You couldn't make it up.


• Penultimate change. Karunanayake and Curtis. The photo I took of the scoreboard didn't manage to capture their figures but I'm sure they were very good. No wickets though I notice.


• Hollerton and the Captain lead us home, with WG taking his customary wicket.


• Pizza for all afterwards - 6 modest size pizzas for 24 people were more than enough after the buffet of pies we had received from the FCC bowlers.
